THE ORIGIN OF MARLBORO CIGARETTES
Marlboro, along with many other Philip Morris brands conquered the United States in 1902. This was the year when Phillip Morris, a London-based cigarette manufacturer, created a New York subsidiary in 1902 with the aim of promoting several brands of cigarettes to the American market. In 1924 they advertised Marlboro as a womens cigarette under the slogan "mild as May".The Marlboro brands were sold in this way until World War II when the temporary brand was removed from the market. At the end of the war only Camel, Lucky Strike, and Chesterfield cigarette brands survived and took a strong position in the tobacco market.Marlboro brands reappeared on the tobacco market in 1955, but this time it was the new Marlboro with the final filtered. Philip Morris, as well as other tobacco companies took the consideration of several articles about lung cancer caused by smoking, which was published in the 50s. Every tobacco company starts producing cigarette filters to maintain high sales.
By the way the Marlboro brand is named after Great Marlborough Street, the original factory location of London. Philip Morris Branch in Indonesia, PT. Philip Morris Indonesia, bought 40% of PT.
